This guide describes the steps necessary to configure the
VersionOne application and use the VersionOne system. The general agile process
for planning and tracking is mirrored in the application's planning menu:
Product Planning, Release Planning, Sprint Planning, and Sprint Tracking.
Basic System Setup
Create Members
Select Add Member from the Getting Started page.
View the list of current members in the system.
Select Add Member to create a new user in the system.
Members have now been assigned to and can access the project.
This allows project members to begin adding stories, define the sprint schedule,
plan releases and sprints, assign tasks, and track progress of the project.
Product Planning
Create Story
Select Product Planning in the main menu and click Story and Defects.
Enter story by selecting Add Story.
Assign appropriate descriptions, estimates, values, priorities, ownership,
and risks to stories.
(Optional) Further Define &
Organize Stories
(Optional) Rank individual stories against each other by moving the most
valuable stories to the top of the list via either a drag and drop or by
using the multi-select Rank actions.
(Optional) Display and identify Acceptance Tests for stories.
(Optional) Create Defects
(Optional) Define defects to reflect inconsistencies between expected
behavior and actual behavior.
(Optional) Assign and manage defects.
(Optional) Define tasks and tests for defects.
Release Planning
(Optional) Schedule Release
The Release Planning process is used to move stories and
defects through the project hierarchy.
Select Release Planning in the main menu.
Schedule stories and defects in releases by clicking and dragging a row in
grid at the bottom up into the appropriate Release (sub- project) container
above.
To remove stories or defects from a release, display the detailed list in
the release container, then click and drag a row from the container into the
larger project container that surrounds the entire top section of the page.
To move stories or defects from one sub-project to another, drag the row
from the detailed list into another sub-project container on the page.
Sprint Planning
Define Sprints
Schedule Stories and, optionally, Defects in
Sprints
Select Sprint Planning in the planning menu and the Sprint Scheduling page
in the sub-menu.
Assign stories and, optionally, defects to sprints by clicking on a row in
the grid and dragging it up into the appropriate Sprint container above.
View the Detailed Listing to see the individual items in the sprint.
To remove stories or defects from sprints, view the Detailed Listing for the
sprint container and drag the appropriate row out of the container into the
surrounding space.
To move stories or defects from one sprint to another, view the Detailed
Listing for the current sprint and drag the appropriate row to another
sprint in the display.
Detail, Estimate and Assign Stories, Defects,
Tasks to Members
Select Sprint Planning in the main menu and the Detail Planning page in the
sub-menu.
Select Plan Story to add a set of tasks and tests.
Define Detail Estimates for your tasks and tests and identify which team
member(s) has signed up as owner of each.
Once changes have been made, select Apply to save the changes.
Sprint Tracking
Track Progress
Select Sprint Tracking in the main menu.
Use the Taskboard view to see a summary of all current work for the team,
have team members sign up for new tasks and track progress for the tasks.
Click and drag the tasks to reflect Status changes.
Use the Detail Tracking page to see a tree view of the teams work and track
progress.
(Optional) On the Detail Tracking page,
Customize the page view to show the extended Effort column to be able to
define which member worked the hours being logged.
Enter the expended Effort, if applicable, and
remaining effort (To Do) on each activity since the last update.
Select Apply to save the changes.
Use the Testboard view to see a summary of tests. Click and drag the
individual tests to mark as passing or failing.
Close completed workitems.
(Optional) Manage Issues
Close Completed Sprint
Reporting
(Optional) View Reports & Graphs
Select and view a report, entering parameters as appropriate.
Export reports if desired. Graphs can be copied and pasted into external
documents.
Ongoing Process
Repeat the Planning, Tracking and Reporting steps throughout
the project. Refine project schedule as needed. |
