Symptoms
A user is prevented from creating or editing an sprint/iteration. There are different specific messages that can be delivered by the system depending on the action attempted, such as:
- Disabled Add/Edit links
- A popup message: This item is not valid
- A popup message: This item cannot be edited
- An error: Cannot initialize Timebox for context Scope:9999
Cause
This situation can arise if the member has rights to edit the sprints at the level being viewed, but don't have adequate rights at the project level in which the sprint schedule is defined. Sometimes, this occurs if the schedule is defined at a higher level in the project hierarchy than you've been granted access to.
To check:
1) Identify the project level in which the iteration schedule is defined. Project levels with a schedule defined are listed with a calendar icon in the My Projects box on the left of the page (see Related Articles). It will either be:
a - your selected project
b - a parent project in the tree, or
c - not visible at all above your selected level
If the answer is 'c' above, it means you don't have any access (or, therefore, the rights to edit sprints) at the level in which the project is scheduled.
2) See what your Project Role is on the scheduling project level. The Project Role can be viewed on the Administration > Members > Project Roles page. Project and System Admins will have access to this page.
Your Project Role must be Project Lead or higher to be able to edit iterations.
Resolution
Have an administrator grant you a role of Project Lead or higher on the project level in which your iteration/sprint schedule is defined.
