Trying to delete a project and getting a greyed-out Delete link? Here are some things to check. The following are requirements for being able to Delete a project:
Note: 'Feature' is used here generically and will translate to Story, Backlog Item or Requirement in your system.
- The 'System' (root) project cannot be deleted
- The user attempting the delete must have rights to delete a project
- System Admin, Project Admin and Project Lead roles can delete projects
- Must have this role at the level above the project being deleted
- The Project must be Open
- The Project cannot have any undeleted child projects within it
- Project cannot contain any undeleted workitems (Features, Defects, Issues, Requests, etc.) - this is often the culprit. In My Projects, select the project you'd like to delete and check all of the following:
- Each page under Product Planning with the 'Show Closed' filter checked ON - closed items count, so they must be reopened and deleted as well.
- On the Epics (or Feature Breakdown) page, turn on the 'Show All Features' - if anything shows up, it too must be deleted or moved to another project.
- On the same page, select the entire project tree. Export this grid and search for the project you want to delete in the Project column of the export. If the project name shows up anywhere in that list, the associated item must be moved to another project or deleted.
- Check the Themes (or Feature Groups) page with the Show Closed checkbox on and ensure that no items displayed have this project listed in the Project column
