Capacity Planning

Organizations who need detailed planning of team member availability can enable Capacity Planning in their system. Teams can project the amount of expected workload (in terms of Detail Estimate) that each team member will be able to take on during each upcoming sprint/iteration, accounting for holidays, training, commitments to other projects or teams or any other time away. During Iteration Planning, teams are alerted when the amount of planned out detailed work (Detail Estimate) exceeds the projected capacity for any team member or the entire team as a whole.

Project Hierarchy Management

Create Projects or Releases independent of a sprint/iteration schedule.  This allows organizations to start a project and delay sprint/iteration scheduling decisions up until the point at which teams need to start scheduling work.  This also allows teams working on multiple disparate projects across the project tree to reuse the same schedule.  Additionally, administrators can now move projects within the hierarchy, allowing even more flexibility to evolve you project tree.

Member Administration

Manage project membership easier in larger organizations via the use of a new multi-select Move to Project feature on the Project Assignments page. Similar to doing a drag-and-drop for each individual, the multi-select allows an administrator to assign a number of people to a project at once using each individual's default role. Combine this with Member Group filtering to make project assignments a breeze.

Two new member roles have been added to the system:

  • Member Administrator - all the rights of a Project Administrator plus the ability to add and manage members in the system. This allows larger organizations to farm out the ability to define new members without providing access to system configuration settings.
  • Requestor - provides view only access to assigned projects with the ability to add and manage Requests. This allows organizations to obtain direct input from customers and other stakeholders without opening up access to in-progress project work by the team.

Inline Add/Edit

Quickly add new stories (aka backlog items or requirements) and defects directly in the grid without popping up a new window. Inline add is available as the default Add action throughout the main planning/tracking pages for the grids that show the stories and defects.

Double-click on the asset icon (or any unoccupied space) in a grid row to switch that row into Edit mode and make a quick update to a single item. Double-click on a column heading to toggle the column to/from Edit mode so you can make edits to that value for multiple items displayed.

Platform Updates

System Requirements have been updated to reflect support for recent major releases of underlying components, including:

  • Windows 2008
  • IIS 7
  • Firefox 3 (also included as a point upgrade to R8.2)
  • SQL Server 2008 (a bug in SQL is preventing support of this release at this time - see this Knowledge Base Article for the latest information)

The supported platforms include the current release and one older major release for each component. Support for older releases of platform components has been deprecated appropriately. See the System Requirements for more details.

Integrations

   Quality Center Video

  • Quality Center: The Quality Center integration provides a two-way flow of information, allowing an organization to leverage its investment in HP Quality Center as part of an integrated platform for agile development.
  • Perforce: The Perforce integration creates a record of Perforce changelists in VersionOne, enabling the development team to quickly view all of the code changes for a story or defect.
  • Java SDK: The new Java SDK provides the functionality that previously existed in the .Net SDK to Java developers, including object model access to the VersionOne data.
  • .NET SDK Updates: The .Net SDK was updated to reflect changes made for iteration/sprint schedule and the new Move Project action.

Note: Users of existing integrations should upgrade those integrations when upgrading the VersionOne application. Changes to the iteration (sprint) schedules require that the integrations stay in synch with the application for this release.

Miscellaneous

  • Customer Role now allowed to perform actions such as Breakdown and Split provided no Tasks exist on the feature
  • Changed format of inline reports in the planning process to pop up in the same window rather than creating a new window
  • Addressed some outstanding issues in Firefox w/ the Rich Text control
  • Single-value dropdowns retain pending edits when the Details page is refreshed
  • Greater distinction created between enabled and disabled checkboxes
