Entering Time/Hours and Submitting a Timesheet

This feature is available in Enterprise and Ultimate editions.



Follow these steps to learn how to enter your hours in a timesheet and submit it for approval.

  • If time is tracked against an item after it is added to a timesheet, that item is automatically transferred to the next week unless it is Closed. This prevents you from having to reenter open items each week.

  • Any items that you already tracked time against will already be in the sheet. Note that time can be tracked against both Open and Closed work items.


Tracking at the Story level must be enabled before entering your time. Before you begin, see Setting Tracking Levels to learn how to enable effort tracking.

  1. From the main menu, click My Home > My Views Timesheet tab.
  2. Select a project from the Project Navigator, and then use the left and right arrows to choose a week.

  3. Click in the Add new items to Timesheet field.

    • Initially, the list displays only the open work items you own. To add a different item, type the first three characters of a term or ID in the search field. For example, if you're looking for TK-01234, enter any of these to find that task: TK-0123401234, or 1234.

    • If you pause for a few seconds, a preview of matching Open and Closed work items displays. If you keep typing, the matching results become more refined.

  4. Select a work item, and then enter your time in the appropriate columns. Your changes are automatically saved and your daily and weekly totals immediately reflect any new hours entered.

  5. When you are ready to submit your timesheet for approval, click Submit. NOTE that in order for the Submit button to be available, you will have to have a Manager assigned. To assign a Manager follow the Community article "Assigning Managers to Members".

    • After you click Submit, the timesheet will move to your manager's queue and you will no longer be able to change the hours.

    • If you want to make changes, click Cancel Submit (displays after the timesheet has been submitted), make your changes, and then click Submit again to resubmit it for approval.

Note that if you refresh the page without adding any time to the new item, the item is automatically removed since the sheet only shows items with time tracked against them.

Recent Changes

  • The ability to submit and approve timesheets was added in the Winter 2017 (17.0) release. It is not available in older versions of Agility.
  • The Timesheet icon was added to the Sidebar menu in the Summer 2017 (17.2) release. The Sidebar is not available in older versions of Agility.
