CA PPM Integration

CA PPM IntegrationCA Technologies and VersionOne have partnered to build a native integration to connect CA PPM (formerly CA Clarity PPM) with VersionOne. This integration allows CA PPM business users to analyze and approve projects and gives them visibility into Agile project elaboration and execution within VersionOne. The integration supports the following data flows:

  • Agile Project Kickoff (CA PPM -> VersionOne)
  • Work Breakdown Structure (VersionOne -> CA PPM)
  • Time Sheets (VersionOne -> CA PPM)

See the release video above for more details.

Dependency Capabilities Expanded

Dependency relationships can now be set on any primary workitem: Story, Defect or Test Set. This expanded capability allows a team to specify when a critical defect is holding up new features, or call out regression testing that needs to wait until the relevant stories have been completed.

Dependencies are also easier to set thanks to a new multi-select Set Dependencies option. From either the primary Backlog page or Epic Tree view in Product Planning, you can now specify upstream or downstream dependencies for multiple items at once.

Related changes include:

  • Dependencies are included in the detail visualizations for Defects and Test Sets
  • Dependency columns are visible on Defects and Test Sets
  • The Dependency Status column has been improved to show status for upstream vs. downstream dependencies separately and comes with updated icons that are color-blind-friendly
  • The Dependencies visualization has been updated to include out-of-project downstream dependencies (in addition to the upstream that were shown in the past) to help team members and product owners understand all potential impacts of making changes to the schedule
  • The Dependencies visualization also highlights out-of-project items to be clear about what falls within the selected project and what belongs to another project

Epic Dependency Visualization

Epic Dependency Visualization w/ Detail Drill-ThroughNeed to understand the big picture? Considering moving some features from this release to the next and want to know what might be impacted? Fear no more. You have a friend in the new Epic Dependency Visualization. This new view rolls up dependencies between workitems so that you can see all the interdependencies for your epics.  Specify the level of detail to view by choosing an Epic Type in the report. See business initiatives, features, sub-features or whatever epic levels you have configured in your system. By default, the view will roll up to the epic highest level epics visible to you.

Once you understand the big picture, you can drill down to see the details where necessary. By clicking on the drill-through icon on an epic, you will see a view of all workitem-level dependency relationships within the epic. All the detail you need, when you need it.

The new Epic Dependency Visualization is available on the following pages:

Estimably General Release

Estimably GameEstimably, the online estimation game available right from your TeamRoom, has ended its Limited Release period and is now available in all systems. Key updates include the ability to filter the Backlog view in the TeamRoom to show just unestimated items, providing the perfect estimation queue for your team.

Automatic Status Transitions

Configure automatic transitions of the status of stories, defects and test sets triggered by activity of their tasks or tests.  When a task or test's status first changes, either by movement on a board or direct editing, the parent item's status will advance to a configured value. Status transitions can be set independently for stories, defects and test sets.

Improved Visibility and Context of Custom Fields

Custom fields have been relocated for better visibility on both read-only and add/edit detail views. Better context is now available by controlling the order that custom fields appear relative to one another such that fields of higher importance can be placed first and fields that logically make sense together can be visibly represented together.

Technology Updates to Core Reports

ProjectDashboard.pngThis release marks the beginning of a technology update to the reports in our core application.  In this release you will see these technology updates on the following report pages in the core application.

The new charting technology allow you the to turn on and off data series using an interactive legend and it supports zooming into specific areas of the data being presented. The new filtering controls highlight saved and pending changes. Additionally, the new sprint filter control is sorted to present the most recent sprints at the top, making it faster to find a select those sprints.

This release is the beginning of the transformation.  Expect to see more updates as they become available.

Analytics Changes

Monte Carlo Simulation and Other Forecasting Options

Losing sleep over a delivery date?  Want to better understand the impact of risk and uncertainty in your projects?  Take a look at the new Project Burndown with Monte Carlo Simulation dashboard panel in Analytics.   This panel provides a range of possible delivery dates based on a Monte Carlo Simulation using existing burndown data on a project.  The distribution is annotated with percentile markers, or confidence bars, to indicate the 50th, 75th, 85th, and 95th percentile.  This chart/panel can also be added to the Analytics Dashboard available in the Planning Room.

Additionally, we added support for linear forecasting to the existing Project Burndown panel.  When enabled, a dotted forecast line is drawn from the last point on the burndown to indicate the date the burndown line would reach zero.  The calculation for the forecast line can one of the following:

  • Average - Uses the Average of all previous slope values
  • Optimistic - Uses the steepest previous slope value
  • Pessimistic - Uses the lowest, non-zero, slope value
  • Most Frequent - Uses the non-zero slope value that occurs most often.  If none of the slope values repeat, this calculation uses the Average.

Both of these panels are available on all Analytics Dashboards and in Planning Rooms.

SAFe 3.0

The following SAFe 3.0 charts are available as Dashboard Panels in Analytics and in Planning Rooms.  You can add multiple instances of each panel if desired.

  • Epic Progress Report - allows you to visualize the total work for an Epic compared to the Swag value.  The total work for the epic is grouped to identify completed work, in progress work, and remaining work.  The hover indicates the total number and percentage for the selected group.
  • Epic Burn-up - allows you to visualize work being delivered to a target for a single Epic.

Dependencies Reporting in Custom Reporting

The Story Dependency data source in Custom Reporting has been deprecated and replaced with a Workitem Dependency data source.  The new data source enables reporting on all Worktem Dependencies defined in the corresponding VersionOne instance.  Workitems are defined as Stories, Defects, and TestSets.

Other changes:

  • The Workitem TreeMap Dashboard Panel was updated to align with the technology update the other panels received in Summer 2014.
  • Export options on Large Chart are properly styled in IE
  • The Dashboard "Please Wait" spinner closes properly when changing filter parameters.
  • Uses can once again rename Dashboard Panels
  • Corrected a SQL Timeout issue on the Workitem Cycle Time Dashboard Panel
  • Checkboxes on the Epic Progress report and the Epic BurnUp chart cause the Apply button to appear

Data Mart Changes

The Data Mart database has been updated with the following changes

  • A new bridge table was added to support the primary workitem dependency change in the core VersionOne application.  The new table is called Bridge.PrimaryWorkitemDependencies and it will contain one record for each primary workitem dependency defined in the core application.  Join the columns in this table to Dim.PrimaryWorkitem to determine information, such as type, about the workitem.
  • The existing Bridge.StoryDependsOnStory table has been depreciated.  Reports using this table should now use the new Bridge.PrimaryWorkitemDependencies and filter the results appropriately.

Integration Changes

New! CA PPM Integration for VersionOne

The CA PPM and VersionOne integration gives portfolio leaders a clear picture of all projects from the top down, from high-level feature planning to work item assignment. In a truly unified solution. The integration leverages CA PPM's strategic, financial portfolio management capabilities with VersionOne's best-of-breed ALM software to improve agile adoption and accelerate time-to-market. Read the press release.

For more information, see CA PPM Integration for VersionOne

New! Quotium Seeker Integration for VersionOne

Quotium Seeker has the ability to open defects directly in VersionOne based on the findings from a test. In an agile environment, it is important to be able to manage the different aspects of the project from one central location. The ability to integrate the vulnerabilities found by Seeker with the application life cycle reduces the learning curve and miscommunication between the development and DevOps teams. This allows the process of security integration to be streamlined with the minimum of friction and costs.

For more information, see Quotium Seeker Integration for VersionOne

Updated! QASymphony qTest Integration for VersionOne

The qTest integration for VersionOne is a test management solution that allows you to manage your manual, exploratory, and automated testing in a single location, providing a complete view of your testing coverage and progress.

For more information, see QASymphony qTest Integration for VersionOne

Updated! QASymphony qTest eXplorer Integration for VersionOne

qTest eXplorer is an intelligent screen capture tool that runs unobtrusively on a testers' desktop, capturing every screen and step needed to reproduce a defect. The session can then be submitted to VersionOne directly as a Defect, synced into the Session Manager of qTest, or saved locally in one of several popular formats. Additionally, users can convert the recorded sessions into a manual scripted test case for later use in regression or integration testing cycles.

For more information, see QASymphony qTest eXplorer Integration for VersionOne
