How do I move a VersionOne database from one MS SQL database server to another?

If the Lifecycle server will remain the same, follow these steps.

If moving to a new server...

  1. Using Enterprise Manager, back up* the database on your current system.

  2. Make sure that your new server meets the VersionOne System Requirements.

  3. Using Enterprise Manager on the new server, Restore* the database backup from the current system as the name you just deleted.

  4. Run the install program to create a new system on the new server.

  5. When asked to attach to a database, attach to the database you restored on the new server.

If moving the database only...

The easiest thing to do is to reinstall a new system that points to your new SQL server. That allows the VersionOne installation program to do all the coordination work and keep everything in sync.

Follow these steps reinstall a new system:

  1. Make sure that your new server meets the VersionOne System Requirements.

  2. Using SQL Server Manager, back up* the database on your current system.

  3. Uninstall the old application.

  4. Using Enterprise Manager on the new server, Restore* the database backup from the original server.

  5. Run the install program to create a new system, and then attach to the newly restored database when prompted.

Do not use SQL Server’s ‘Copy Database…’ or other DTS-based db replication tasks, as they may not accurately replicate all database structures. To ensure the integrity of the database, you must use a full Backup (‘Backup type: Full’) and Restore.
