Overview

VersionOne® provides a centralized environment to simplify your adoption and implementation of agile at each level defined in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)®: Portfolio, Value Stream, Program, and Team. This article describes the features that support SAFe at each of those levels.

Portfolio Level

The strategies that drive enterprise initiatives, value stream funding, and epic-level decision making occurs at the Portfolio level. You can use these VersionOne Lifecycle features to assist you in capturing your portfolio backlog and simplifying your portfolio planning and management processes.

  • Strategic Themes
Strategic Themes represent the set of business objectives that drive your investment in systems, products, applications, and services. In Lifecycle, you can group your epics by strategic theme and visualize them in various contexts to determine if they align with your overall business strategy.

  • Budgets
The Budgets feature allows you to allocate project or strategic theme budgets in terms of capacity, currency, or percentages.

  • Portfolio Items
Use Portfolio Items to model your epics, which can then be prioritized, sized, and broken down into sub-epics as needed.

  • Portfolio Kanban
With Portfolio Kanban boards, you can manage the flow of epics and easily see the progress of portfolio items as they move through the development process.

  • SAFe Terminology Configuration
Easily change the default Lifecycle terminology set to better fit within your SAFe practice.

  • Key Metrics Available at the Portfolio Level
Using the Portfolio Dashboards, you can see key metrics at the Portfolio level.

Value Stream

The Value Stream level is optional and is intended for large, complex systems consisting of multiple agile release trains. These features fully support SAFe’s Value Stream level, allowing planning, tracking, and delivery of the largest, most complex systems.

In Lifecycle...

  • Capabilities Kanban
The Portfolio Kanban at the Value Stream level allows you to view and manage the flow of capabilities within the Value Stream.

  • PlanningRoom
People with value stream-level leadership responsibilities can use PlanningRooms to coordinate efforts and track progress in a dedicated, configurable environment.

  • Roadmapping
Lifecycle's Program Roadmap establishes alignment across all teams, while also providing predictability to the deliverables over an established time period.

  • Key Metrics Available at the Value Stream Level
Using the Scorecard, Capability Completion, and capability-level Monte Carlo Forecast reports, you can see key metrics at the Value Stream level.

Program

At the Program level, SAFe recognizes the need to align and integrate the efforts of multiple teams. In Lifecycle, you can coordinate your release train to integrate all software assets across all teams in a program with the following tools.

Team

Built to support agile and lean software development workflows, these Lifecycle tools help teams at every level of the process.

  • TeamRooms
TeamRooms are dedicated team-based planning and tracking environment that allow developers to focus on getting the job done. TeamRooms are configurable, allowing teams to specify Iterative or Kanban so even teams practicing different Agile methodologies can work side-by-side within the same release train.

  • PlanningRoom
People with value stream-level leadership responsibilities can use PlanningRooms to coordinate efforts and track progress in a dedicated, configurable environment.
