Release Capacity Planning for Releases/Projects

Overview

The Release Scheduling page gives you insight into your release/project so to help you better optimize your release plans during your release capacity planning activities. Here, you can see release capacity details that show bottlenecks early and so you can only commit to work that can be successfully completed.

Note that release capacity details don't automatically show up. To see capacity values, you must first enable/configure them by entering Target Swag and/or Target Estimate (depending on what you use for release planning) for each release/project.

Once enabled, you can see capacity details in the release progress bars and and in the summary sections.

Enabling Release Capacity Planning

  1. Open the details of a project or create a new project.

  2. If your release activities are driven by:

    • Estimates, enter the Target Estimate value only. The release progress bars will display the target estimate values only.

    • Swag estimates, enter the Target Swag only. The progress bar will display the target swag values only.

  3. (Optional) Enter dates in the Start Date and End Date fields to display the time indicator on the release progress bars.

  4. Click Save.

Notes:

  • If you enter values for both, Target Swag and Target Estimate, the release progress bar will only show Target Swag.

  • If your entire organization only uses one of the capacity fields (either Target Estimate or Target Swag, but not both),  you can turn off the unused field to reduce clutter. To remove the field, go to Administration > Display Fields. Note that this is a system-wide setting that will remove the field from all projects.

Viewing Release Capacity Details

On the Release Scheduling page, there are two ways to view capacity details:

  • The release progress bars show a graphical view of the target values and the relative size of the release in relation to other release. This allows you to quickly scan the page to see where to make adjustments across your releases.

  • To view details, expand the Asset Details section.
