Adding Automate Shared Credentials

Learn how to share credentials to make connections to Windows, Linux, databases, web services via HTTP.

Overview

Shared credentials allow username/password combination or a private key to be stored within the Continuum application and to be referenced in Tasks using an alias. Also Fixed Assets can be created which reference these credentials.

The power of shared credentials resides in the ability to define the credentials once and then reuse them when making various connections to other systems. When a password needs to be changed, there is once place to change them. Using hard coded credentials in Tasks is unnecessary.

Shared credentials can be used to make connections to Windows, Linux, databases, web services via http, etc.

Creating and Editing Shared Credentials

From the right hand menu select Automate, then Tasks, Shared Credentials from the top menu. Name the shared credential something meaningful (e.g. testadmin).

Username / Password

If the credential will be a user/password combination, fill them out here. Domain can be used if used within an Active Directory domain. Privileged Mode is used on Cisco IOS network appliances only.

Private Key

If the shared credential is to represent an SSH private key, select the Private Key tab. Paste in the full text of the private key. An example is as follows.
